So what is Respect?
+
Respect is a stat that provides benefits to those who own rings.
:I would clarify Respect as a new stat introduced to the game to provide a benefit to the people who are married and have rings. (Currently Ring benefits apply to anyone who owns a ring regardless of marital status, assuming they meet the Respect requirements to obtain the bonuses the rings offer)
+

How many kinds of Respect are there?
+
Mechanics
:There are two types of Respect.
+
Respect works differently than the other stats in HoboWars in both the way it is obtained and the benefits it provides you with.
::Positive Respect (referred to as +R from this point forward)
+
::Negative Respect (referred to as -R from this point forward)
+

:+R is any amount of Respect equal to or greater than 1
+
Obtainment
:-R is any amount of Respect equal to or less than -1
+
Instead of obtaining it from a specific location, say, the University, respect is obtained whenever you attack another player and win. Your respect is not affected when you win or lose a fight against NPCs, nor is it affected when you lose a fight against another player.

How do you gain or lose respect?
+
Benefits
:This is a multiple part answer.
+
The benefits of respect vary according to the type of respect you have: positive or negative. Positive respect provides a boost to your speed combat stat and your defense. Negative respect, on the other hand, provides a boost to your speed combat stat and your attack. Whenever you attack a player with positive respect and win, you receive negative respect. Conversely, whenever you attack someone with negative respect and win, you receive positive respect.
::# You gain or lose respect only when you win a fight with another hobo. Fighting in the arena does not affect your respect. Losing a fight does not affect your respect. (Yes, this was implied in the first statement but I wanted to explicitly state this fact.)
+
::# If you defeat a hobo who has +R you will receive –R.
+
::# If you defeat a hobo who has –R you will receive +R.
+
::# If you defeat a hobo who attacks you that has the same type of respect as you (+ or -) your respect will not be affected.
+

How can I determine what someone’s respect is?
+
Maintenance
:Hobo is alive:
+
Every minor reset, your respect decreases at a rate that is determined by your respect rank. Train your respect at a rate that negates or overcomes that loss. The amount of loss dynamically changes on a regular basis and varies between versions. To see your current daily loss, you need to hover over or click your respect rank shown on your living area. There are 3 constants to this:
::If the hobo in question is alive you can go to Duncan’s House and view the side that they are on and the respect is shown on the right hand side of the screen in line with their name.
+
:Hobo is Dead or Alive:
+
::If the hobo in question is dead you can do a search by going to the City, clicking on Hobo Meeting Area, enter the user's name or ID number into the search field, click on the hobo's name, and then looking between their Age and Level.
+

What is the formula for how much respect I will gain by killing a hobo?
+
* The higher your Respect Rank, the higher your daily loss will be.
:Equation:
+
* Respect Rank 0 never has a daily loss.
::(Hobo's respect / 200) + 50 = respect to be gained/lost.
+
* Respect Rank 15 always has an additional 3% loss.

:Examples:
+
Respect Titles
::Hobo A has 10,000 +R while Hobo B has 8,000 –R.
+
Once you have reached a certain amount of respect, your respect title will change and you will receive greater respect stat bonuses. The default respect title for new players is Hobo. Once you own a ring, you will start to receive respect stat bonuses, which are added to your ring's base stat bonuses. To find out your ring's total stat bonuses, add your respect stat bonuses to your ring's base stat bonuses.

:If you kill Hobo A:

You would round 54.1 up to 55 and then add 50 to that number which would give you a gain of 105 respect.

What amount of respect do you need to have in order to get ring bonuses?
+
| !a
:If you have positive respect, it must be greater than 25,000. Else it must be less than -25,000.
+
|

+
| -99999
Do hobos that have –R also get ring bonuses?
+
|
:Yes, as long as they have -25,000 R or less.
+

+
Note: less than -25,000 -R would be -25,500
+

+
Are the ring bonuses for +R and –R the same?
+
:No, the ring bonuses for +R and –R are similar but not identical.
+

+
What are the ring bonuses for +R and –R if they are different?
+
:+R 25,000 or more is a bonus to Speed and Defense.
+
:–R 25,000 or more is a bonus to Speed and Damage.
+

+
Do all of the rings provide the same amount of bonuses and how does Respect affect the bonuses?
+
:No all rings do not provide the same bonuses. Respect adds onto the base bonus of the ring.
+

+
Ring bonuses(These are base numbers):
+
:Gold /w Diamond: +150
+
:Gold: +125
+
:Silver: +100
+
:Metal: +75
+
:Plastic: +50
+

+

+
Respect gives an added bonus to the base once the bonuses are activated. The amounts that are known are listed below.
+

+
:25,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:50,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:100,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:200,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:400,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:800,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:1,600,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:3,200,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:5,000,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:8,000,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:14,000,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+
:20,000,000 or greater +R or –R provides an additional +25 to the base ring bonus
+

+

+
Example:
+
Hobo A has 51,000 +R and a Gold Ring with Diamond. This would give Hobo A +200 to Speed and Defense (150 from ring, +50 from respect).
+

+
Is the +Speed bonus added to your stat first then calculated into the speed formula for battle?
+
No. The speed bonus is a straight addition to your bottom end and top end speed.
+

+
Example: If you have 25,000 +R, a Gold ring with Diamond, and 2,000 Speed.
+

+
Your Speed located under Defense would look like the following without any ring bonuses:
+
Speed*: 500 ~ 2,000
+

+
After your +175 Speed bonus your Speed would look like the following with the ring bonuses:
+
Speed*: 675 ~ 2,175
+

+
This also applies to the +Damage bonus and the +Defense bonus.
+

+

Training Tips
+
When you first start out, training your respect will be slow and boring. However, as you become more powerful and able to defeat players with higher respect, your respect will start to grow at a relatively fast pace. The key is to consistently attack players whose respect type is the opposite of yours, since attacking someone whose respect type is the same as yours will cause your respect to decrease. Therefore, choose your opponents wisely, keeping an eye out for their respect type so that you can maximize your respect stat gains.
+
+
There are several other ways to train your respect:
+
+
* Consume a Jolly Gentlemen mixed drink before fighting. The status effect it gives you, Classy as Hell, increases your respect gains by 25%. Beware, though, for the 25% increase applies to both types of respect. For example, if you have positive respect and attack another player who also has positive respect, you will receive 25% more negative respect, not 25% less negative respect.
+
+
* Have a Respect Ring equipped when you battle other players. The Respect Ring increases your respect gains by an amount that is dependent upon how much respect you have. The less respect you have, the larger the boost; the more respect you have, the smaller the boost. As with the boost provided by the Classy as Hell status effect, it applies to both types of respect.
+
+
* Eat a Red Hot Chili Pepper for the Under the Bridge effect, which will give you respect gains while Begging or training stats at University.

How can I see what bonuses my ring gives to me?
+
* Participate in Side Wars. All Side War participants receive a 25% increase to their respect gains. Additionally, Side War participants with positive respect will not gain any respect when they attack and win against players with positive respect, and Side War participants with negative respect will not gain any respect when they attack and win against players with negative respect. In other words, while you are signed up for Side Wars, there aren't any consequences from attacking someone with the same type of respect as your own, meaning that you can attack anyone without having to worry about it working against your desired respect gains.
If you meet the requirements to have ring bonuses simply hover your mouse over the name of the ring and a small popup will appear telling you your bonuses. The name of your ring will be located directly under your Armor on the right hand side of your living area.
+

Example: Gold Ring with Diamond with 25,000 –R will read:
+
* Get an Arena Badass tattoo which gives between 5-15% boost depending on age.

Respect is a stat that provides benefits to those who own rings.

Mechanics

Respect works differently than the other stats in HoboWars in both the way it is obtained and the benefits it provides you with.

Obtainment

Instead of obtaining it from a specific location, say, the University, respect is obtained whenever you attack another player and win. Your respect is not affected when you win or lose a fight against NPCs, nor is it affected when you lose a fight against another player.

Benefits

The benefits of respect vary according to the type of respect you have: positive or negative. Positive respect provides a boost to your speed combat stat and your defense. Negative respect, on the other hand, provides a boost to your speed combat stat and your attack. Whenever you attack a player with positive respect and win, you receive negative respect. Conversely, whenever you attack someone with negative respect and win, you receive positive respect.

Maintenance

Every minor reset, your respect decreases at a rate that is determined by your respect rank. Train your respect at a rate that negates or overcomes that loss. The amount of loss dynamically changes on a regular basis and varies between versions. To see your current daily loss, you need to hover over or click your respect rank shown on your living area. There are 3 constants to this:

 • The higher your Respect Rank, the higher your daily loss will be.
 • Respect Rank 0 never has a daily loss.
 • Respect Rank 15 always has an additional 3% loss.

Respect Titles

Once you have reached a certain amount of respect, your respect title will change and you will receive greater respect stat bonuses. The default respect title for new players is Hobo. Once you own a ring, you will start to receive respect stat bonuses, which are added to your ring's base stat bonuses. To find out your ring's total stat bonuses, add your respect stat bonuses to your ring's base stat bonuses.

Top Respect Titles

In addition to the previous titles, there are special titles reserved for those who have the most (or least) respect in the game. The bonuses provided from these titles are added to the sum of your current respect stat bonuses and your ring's base stat bonuses.

Training Tips

When you first start out, training your respect will be slow and boring. However, as you become more powerful and able to defeat players with higher respect, your respect will start to grow at a relatively fast pace. The key is to consistently attack players whose respect type is the opposite of yours, since attacking someone whose respect type is the same as yours will cause your respect to decrease. Therefore, choose your opponents wisely, keeping an eye out for their respect type so that you can maximize your respect stat gains.

There are several other ways to train your respect:

 • Consume a Jolly Gentlemen mixed drink before fighting. The status effect it gives you, Classy as Hell, increases your respect gains by 25%. Beware, though, for the 25% increase applies to both types of respect. For example, if you have positive respect and attack another player who also has positive respect, you will receive 25% more negative respect, not 25% less negative respect.
 • Have a Respect Ring equipped when you battle other players. The Respect Ring increases your respect gains by an amount that is dependent upon how much respect you have. The less respect you have, the larger the boost; the more respect you have, the smaller the boost. As with the boost provided by the Classy as Hell status effect, it applies to both types of respect.
 • Participate in Side Wars.
 • Get an Arena Badass tattoo which gives between 5-15% boost depending on age.
 • The Beggar Ring sometimes gives ±2500 respect as a special reward
