+ | *** ''7/06/11'': The Cannon now bases its damage off of the user's base stats, so effects won't help. In addition, if you are firing the cannon while drunk there is a chance of it missing its target. The chance of this happening maxes out at 25% when you are fully drunk.
+ | *** ''7/06/11'': New "auto-shift" option added while mining. If checked, and you don't have enough moves left to lay down your currently selected explosive, it will automatically shift down to the next most powerful explosive that you can use.
+ | *** ''7/06/11'': Black ore can now be found further back in the mines. It can be traded for a boost to your max life at the expense of your 3 battle stats.
+ | *** ''7/06/11'': A new item, the "Begging Piggy" can now be traded for 75 hobalt shards. The piggy will increase you begging cash gains by 10%, begging stat gains by 1% and increase your begging lvl by 1. It lasts for 500~1000 begs and works simply by being in your backpack when you beg.

+ | *** ''9/09/11'': Equalization for UFC has changed a little bit. Rounds are now set to 50,000 stats and 150,000 Life (300,000 if health is set to carry over). It was 10,000 stats and 100,000 Life, so this should help prevent fights from dragging out as much.
+ | *** ''9/24/11'': The Living Area has been cleaned up and reorganized. Related stats are now grouped together rather than dumped in a big list. Food, Backpack and Stat Logs can all be accessed directly from the living area without having to navigate to a new page.
+ | *** ''9/24/11'': You now have the option of one click training at uni to use all your Awake at once (multiples of 10 only). Also, if you don't have enough cash on hand, it will pull directly from your bank.

+ | *** ''10/18/11'': New item available at the Pawn Shop: The Bartender Guide. The guide remembers the recipe for any drinks you mix and allows for 1 click mixing of those recipes. Anyone holding a bartender guide will also be given a 10% discount at the Liquor Store, and the Dive Bar Bartender will be able to mix you certain recipes if you have them recorded. Also, the mixer page no longer opens in a separate window.
+ | *** ''10/19/11'': Smilies added to the message boards in order to upvote and downvote a thread or post.
+ | ** Minor | ||
+ | *** ''10/20/11'': Gang Members with the "Title-Roles" privilege can now click the "See who has which privileges" link at the bottom of the Title Privileges page to.... See who has which privileges.
+ | *** ''10/21/11'': The Bartender Guide's 10% discount has been extended to shots at the dive bar.
+ | *** ''10/21/11'': Watching/Unwatching a message board thread no longer requires a new page load.
+ | *** ''10/25/11'': Players on your mail block list are now prevented from sending you friend requests or marriage proposals as well.
+ | *** ''10/25/11'': You can now add a note when blacklisting someone from a gang. This way you can recall later on why you thought that person was a douchebag.
+ | *** ''10/30/11'': There's now a pop up confirmation box when removing a friend from the player page.

+ | *** ''11/06/11'': The Gang Member List page has been cleaned up and combined with the Hall of Fame.
+ | *** ''11/06/11'': Editing a gang title will no longer remove roles that you don't have access to.
+ | *** ''11/12/11'': The Ring Pop will now function properly in No Effect UFC fights.
+ | *** ''11/20/11'': A new gang title role called "Hos-Secondary" has been added. Any players with this role will use a secondary hospital coverage limit instead of the normal one. The secondary limit can be set from the hospital coverage page. This could be useful for giving tourers a different coverage limit from normal gang members, or for giving WC members a higher limit.
+ | *** ''11/30/11'': The timing for skills has changed a bit. You won't notice any difference unless you're using keg stands or jello shots. If, say, a jello shot increases your BA so you're firing a skill once every 7 rounds, you will now fire your next skill 7 rounds after your jello shot. Without going into too much detail, it was more complex before and sometimes you'd fire skills sooner and sometimes later. It's a good thing. Just trust me.

+ | *** ''2/29/12'': The ability to search personal news archives has been added. You can search by Hobo ID and/or keywords.
+ | ** Minor | ||

+ | *** ''4/02/12'': Sidewars received a major overhaul. North Side has been opened up as a player accessible side. To go along with this, Sidewars has been expanded to include a territory control game using positions in the city. Territory will count towards Sidewars scores when they are calculated at the end of the week. Each side has a base with a flag inside. Earn additional war points by finding enemy flags and getting them back to your base. You can also improve your side's can and cash finds by increasing the amount of territory your side controls.
+ | ** Minor | ||
+ | *** ''4/24/12'': The Water Cannon and Mithril Garbage Bin are no longer listable on the SGHM.
+ | *** ''4/25/12'': A display error on players' Living Areas was fixed. Previously, the speed boost from rings was being added twice to the lower and upper ends of the Speed* range. This was inaccurate, as the speed boost was actually being split evenly among the lower and upper ends of the Speed* range. Since this change was purely cosmetic, there should be no difference in the outcome of hobo fights because of this fix.
+ | *** ''4/27/2012'': The Second City Flea Market has been relocated from the Park to the Bus Station.

+ | *** ''5/08/12'': Capturing a flag while exploring the city now rewards 15 War Points instead of 10. It also subtracts 15 War Points from the captured side.
+ | *** ''5/12/12'': Capturing a flag controlled by the winning side from last week's Sidewars now nets an additional 5 War Points for each week in a row that side was victorious. This counter is reset at Side Switch.
+ | *** ''5/12/2012'':The tiebreaker skill will now display a special message at the end of battle if it was what determined victory.

+ | *** ''6/01/12'': Quick Heal links have been added to a few explore areas of the game, such as the Sewers and Beeramid, the Canbodian River, and The Hoburbs.
+ | *** ''6/06/12'': You can now trade back extra Utility Belts and Can Cannons at the Recycling Bin for a few Hippy Points.
+ | *** ''6/06/12'': Chocolate-Filled Kegs can now be pawned.
+ | *** ''6/06/12'': The name search on the battle page ("Start a fight" page) has been optimized and also now sorts results by level.
+ | *** ''6/19/12'': The battle report now shows how much experience you've gained from the Utility Belt when it rolls Snake Eyes.

+ | *** ''9/07/12'': Personal Hitlist notes were made more user-friendly by adding an option to show or hide all notes at the bottom of the page. The option you choose persists between page loads. You can also now quickly add or edit notes by clicking on the player ID next to someone's name. Bonus: Click the flashing "Online!" link beside the name of any online player on your Hitlist to sort by last moment of activity.
+ | *** ''9/25/2012'': Gang loans can now be paid back incrementally. Gang members with the "Loans" privilege can see a list of outstanding loans on the Manage Loans page, as well as personal loan histories for individual gang members from the Manage Loans or Member List pages.
+ | * '''October 2012''' | ||
+ | ** Major | ||
+ | *** ''10/31/12'': The first Traveling Carnival appeared in the City just in time for Halloween. The Carnival consists of a Matching Game Tent (flip the cards, find matching pairs, and win prizes) and a Haunted House (in beta mode) to explore. The Carnival is not a permanent feature and will come and go when decided by game staff.
+ | ** Minor | ||
+ | *** ''10/06/12'': The option to change the display, similar to what the Backpack has, has been added to some in-game shops.
+ | *** ''10/20/12'': The UFC stat penalty for winners has changed. Stat penalties are no longer automatically reduced over time. Instead, you can gain back 1% per week if you do NOT sign up for the UFC.
+ | *** ''10/20/2012'':Stat boosts from the Patriotic status effect will now show in your Living Area if you are holding a flag.
+ | * '''November 2012'''
+ | ** Major | ||
+ | *** ''11/08/12'': A battle log page has been added where donators can see an overview of all their battles for the previous week. Click the column headers to sort by wins/losses, attacker, defender or time of battle. Non-donators are limited to viewing only their 5 most recent fights.
+ | *** ''11/10/12'': Major changes were made to the game rules. It is now okay to give away your funds to players when you quit. Also, a player who wishes to start over on a new account must first notify a Vice Minister or a Minister of their intent to start over. Next, that player must log out of their current account and remain logged out of it for at least a year (365 days). After that account reaches one year of inactivity, that player may create a new account to play on. After logging in on that new account, that player must immediately contact a Vice Minister or a Minister to let them know that they have successfully started over. The contacted staff member will then permanently jail that player's previous account, with nothing from that account being transferred to the new account. A former player who returns to play the game on a new account because they forgot their old account's login credentials will be presented with the choice to use either their new account or their old account ONLY if they have not logged into their old account for at least a year. The account they choose not to use will be jailed, with nothing from that jailed account being transferred to the other account.
+ | *** ''11/10/12'': The HoboWars Staff will be a little more lax when it comes to enforcing message board rules against certain activities on the Non-HoboWars Talk board. The activities that will be less restricted are as follows: Copycat thread creation, off-topic discussion in threads, and mild banter between two players.

+ | ** ''10/07/12'': The motherboard died on the database server, preventing anyone from accessing the game for approximately 22 hours. When the servers were fixed and brought back online, everyone started from a restore point made two days prior to the crash. Anything acquired during the two day period after the backup was made (such as money, tokens, points, stats, SGHM purchases) vanished. Additionally, any new players who signed up during that period lost their accounts and had to create new ones in order to play.
+ | ** ''10/09/12'': The [[I.T._Spider|I.T. Spider]] event appeared in the corner of random pages for three days. Each time you defeated the Spider, you received special rewards. Reward possibilities included stat gains, experience gains, cans, points, cash, Food Stamps, Hobo Stew, and access to Bernard's Personal Library.

− | Fall 2007 - Andy Hogan creates a Facebook application called Hobowars. It is loosely based on the original, but missing a lot of options. Due to Andy using Facebook ID's and real names in this application, the boards become a battleground. Personal information is easily accessible with Facebook lacking the privacy options it has today, and most people not blocking what they can. This lays the foundation for what would come, with alliances being drawn before gangs even existed. | + | * ''' Fall 2007 ''' - Andy Hogan creates a Facebook application called Hobowars. This event was made possible as a result of another Anniversary: The Desparados {TDA} 1 Year birthday bash. So many top hobos were brought in to TDA during this event that it was finally possible to beat the GoDHS whom had held the #1 spot in the WC since its inception.

+ | §øÐå Mïžêʁ is the 1st person to reach 7211. This is the max level possible on FBHW. In a short time, most top hobos would reach this milestone. By the Fall of 2009, most active players were at this level. Most players achieved it from a few of the Rape Sellers and Beggars camping near the 1000 level, allowing lower levels to gain 30+ levels per hit.

The bigger issue with whom would be dubbed "The Ghost Mailer", was that it was difficult to prove. It was made possible by exposing a glitch in sending the mails, which won't be listed here.

- 8/10/05: Albert Nguyen (a.k.a. meek) created the first piece of in-game artwork for HoboWars, which was the old header image for the Battle! page. It was added to the game on the same day it was created.

- 12/4/06: The HoboWars servers crashed and went down for three days, preventing anyone from accessing the game. When the servers were fixed and brought back online on December 7, 2006, everyone started from a restore point made 24 hours prior to the crash. Anything acquired during the 24 hour period after the backup was made (such as money, tokens, points, stats, SGHM purchases) vanished, and the Message Boards were wiped clean and the contents of the Help Wiki were erased. Additionally, any new players who signed up during that 24 hour period lost their accounts and had to create new ones in order to play. This event became known as Black Wednesday.
- ????? 2006
- The 2006 Bummys ended.
2007

- 9/07/07: Stat graphs were added, allowing players to track the rate of growth of their stats over a period of, at most, 30 days.

Events
- January 2007
- 1/??/07: Ed and Oli hit the game with a phishing scam that compromised many HoboWars accounts, especially those of newer players. They spread around a rumor that there was there was a new HoboWars server, and provided links to a website that mirrored the HoboWars login page. Whenever someone attempted to login through that fake page, they would get a notice that the new server wasn't up yet, and their username and password got stored in a database that Ed and Oli used to gain access into other players' accounts.
- February 2007
- 2/24/07: Ed and Oli used malicious Javascript seeded into HoboMail messages to snatch the address bar off of any player who viewed their jumbled mail messages, and used that information to compromise various players' accounts. Although the message boards were protected from Javascript attacks, the HoboMail message system was not, and, therefore, even the accounts of older players and staff members became compromised. Fortunately, the HoboMail message system is now protected against such Javascript attacks.
- August 2007
- 8/06/07: The HoboWars staff began to crackdown on abusers of the Mass Money Creation glitch (a.k.a. the "mmkk" glitch). Around 25+ players were jailed for exploiting Piggy Bank withdrawal abbreviations such as "k" for thousand and "m" for million. Whenever a player withdrew, for example, "10kkmm" dollars from their Piggy Bank, they would withdraw 2.1 billion dollars, even if they did not actually have that much money in their Piggy Bank. To make matters worse, the fabricated money was randomly sent around to players, making it a nightmare for game staff to track down the sources of the fabricated money.
- December 2007
- The 2007 Bummys ended.

The secondary limit can be set from the hospital coverage page. This could be useful for giving tourers a different coverage limit from normal gang members, or for giving WC members a higher limit.
- 11/30/11: The timing for skills has changed a bit.

- 4/02/12: Sidewars received a major overhaul.

Facebook HoboWars
Started out as a lightweight application on facebook. It was a completely stripped down version of the current offering. No Gangs. No Rats. No races.
After a reset, and a few governors, it finally started catching up to the original on updates. The game did not function the same as the original, and the game was reset yet again.
It now has most of the benefits of the original, but there are no daily adventures. Most benefits of the adventures, did happen to make it to the current version.

Updates
Events
- Fall 2007 - Andy Hogan creates a Facebook application called Hobowars.

- 02/21, 2008 - Andy resets the game, and a few additions are added to the 'lite' version. With this, many hobos are stripped of their stats. Regardless of whether it is "proven" that they cheated, many are treated just the same. This event is commonly termed
"The hobocalypse"
After a short while, a few gangs are formed, shaping the environment for what is to come.
The new version now allows gangs, has a new look, and most regular features start appearing.

GoDHS is defeated in the WC for the 1st time in their history, just one week after their 1 year anniversary. This event was made possible as a result of another Anniversary: The Desparados {TDA} 1 Year birthday bash. So many top hobos were brought in to TDA during this event that it was finally possible to beat the GoDHS whom had held the #1 spot in the WC since its inception.

§øÐå Mïžêʁ is the 1st person to reach 7211.
- Summer 2009
Some people started receiving disturbing and/or abusive mails that were unmarked. Although the finger was pointed in a few directions, the list of candidates was relatively short. The bigger issue with whom would be dubbed "The Ghost Mailer", was that it was difficult to prove. It was made possible by exposing a glitch in sending the mails, which won't be listed here.
It started infrequently at first, but got more progressive shortly before they were caught.
- 11/28, 2009
The Ghost Mailer is caught, via multiple means, and jailed. The culprit, Ψ Mrs. Mïžêʁ (433) continued to login for another 6 months, perhaps with the expectation that abusing a glitch, and e-stalking might be forgiven. 9 Multis were also Jailed.
