Rats |
Rats are a hobo's best friend. They are also the only animals you can find, capture, own, and raise in HoboWars.
One of the biggest perks about owning a rat is that it can directly damage your opponent during a fight.
Contents
Mechanics
Rats must be found and captured before they can be raised to become a formidable sidekick in hobo battles or a powerful combatant in rat fights.
Obtainment
* Only donators can purchase this rat cage. |
Rats can be found all across HoboWorld. However, before you can run around catching rats you must first purchase a Rat Cage to put them all in. Fortunately, the Pet Shop in the City sells rat cages, from one-slot cages that can only hold one rat to three-slot cages that hold up to three! You can only own one type of rat cage at a time; when you purchase a different one, the one you currently have gets thrown out with no refund and replaced by the new cage. So, no, you can't have five three-slot cages or one three-slot cage, one two-slot cage, and one one-slot cage. Therefore, it is highly recommended to buy a two-slot cage if you a non-donator or a three-slot cage if you are a donator. (If you lose your donator status, you still get to keep and use the three-slot cage; it does not disappear or get downgraded to a two-slot cage.)
Once you have purchased your rat cage, you can now go out and start catching rats! As previously mentioned, rats can be found all over the place;
If you have a rat cage with an empty slot, you will automatically attempt to catch the rat when you find one. You can release any captured rat you don't want by going to the rat page and selecting Abandon.
All of the locations can be found in the listing of rats located in the rat listing
Rat Stats
Rats are just like hobos in that they have stats that determine their worth. Their stats can be trained and upgraded, and they have skills that increased to give additional benefits.
Lifespan (LSP) | Hunger (HGR) |
---|---|
Lifespan is the total number of days your rat can survive and is connected to your rat's age. A rat's age advances during the AM reset; rat's die when their age surpasses its lifespan. You can extend your hobo's lifespan by purchasing upgrades or increasing your rat's Vegetarianism skill. | Hunger is the how much energy your rat can ingest from food in a day. A rat's hunger is reset during the AM reset. You rat can obtain energy by eating most hobo foods in the game. The max hunger can be increased by purchasing upgrades or increasing your rat's Buddhism skill. |
Energy (NRG) | Agility (AGI) |
Energy is the equivalent to hobo awake (T). Energy is used in all rat activities. It takes 30 energy/hour for a rat to train, takes 10 energy for rats to fight one another, and 30 energy for a rat to duel. Energy is regenerated at a rate of 5 energy per 20 minutes. | Agility is equivalent to hobo speed. Agility can be gained through training and by purchasing upgrades. Agility can be enhanced through the speed mastery, but the skill only helps with rat fights and duels. |
Strength (STR) | Concentration (CON) |
Strength is equivalent to hobo power (damage). Strength can be gained through training and upgrade purchases. Strength can be enhanced through the damage mastery, but the skill only works in rat fights and duels. | Concentration is equivalent to hobo strength (defense). Concentration is obtained through training and upgrades. Concentration is further upgraded by the defense mastery, though the skill only works in rat fights and duels. |
Vitality (VIT) | Index |
Vitality is equivalent to hobo life. A rat's life total only matters in rat fights and duels, and can be increased through training and upgrade purchases. | Index determines what other rats you can fight, and only raises as the rat's stats or level increase. Index generally follows the formula: Index = 1 + (Int(0.02((Level*4)+ Agi + Conc + Str + (Vit/5)))) |
Training
You can train your rat's stats. Rat's can gain 0.4 agility/strength/concentration or 2 vitality per train. It costs 30 energy per training session and rats gain their stats on the hour. Rats cannot train their lifespan, hunger, or energy stats.
Upgrading
Upgrading your rats' stats will cost you a bit of money. You can purchase up to 10 upgrades for each rat stat. To purchase an upgrade, you need the money on hand and then click the [+] in the column of the stat you upgrade.

Leveling
You can have your rats fight to gain experience. Rats gain 3 experience for fighting another 1 index lower than they are, 4 experience for fighting another the same index as they are, and 5 experience for fighting another rat 1 index higher than them. For every attack on the same rat, you will gain one less exp.
Every level your rat gains you get 3 free stat upgrades and 1 free skill level. As you gain levels, you can update your rats skill levels. With each level, you gain one upgrade.
Training Mastery | Speed Mastery |
---|---|
+0.01 gains per train. | +2% Agility in rat fights by +2% per level. +1.5% chance per level to sprint in all rat fights. |
Damage Mastery | Defense Mastery |
+2% Strength in rat fights by per level. +1% chance per level to overpower your opponent (critical hit). |
+2% Concentration in rat fights per level. +1% chance to dodge on their next defense. |
Buddhism | Vegetarianism |
5 to max hunger per level. | +2 to lifespan per level. |
Duels
You can duel your rats against the rats of other hobos. The purpose of dueling was to determine which hobo could create the ultimate rat setup, as well as gain a little monetary bonus. To duel your rat, it must have a minimum index of 5, a minimum level of 5, and have a lifespan of at least 2. It costs $15,000 and 30 rat energy to sign up for a duel. Once you have the money in hand, go to the "Sign up" link to enter your rat into the dueling world, and then use the "Manage arena" page to chose your dueling partner. Your rats cannot duel each other, only rats from another hobo.
Rat duels do not happen immediately after the pair is set. This is because hobos can wager bets on the duels. Any hobo can make a bet, but be warned that once you make a bet of any type, the bet cannot be unmade.
For winning a duel, you receive $40,000 + 2% of the total amount bet on your duel as well as a small amount of exp. You receive nothing for losing a duel. The formula for bets placed on duels is Payout = (Your Bet / Total of Winning Bets) * Total amount of all bets
Rats in Hobo Fights
Rats can be very helpful in your quest to conquer other hobos in your fights. Rat attacks happen every 5 rounds in fights. The rat that does attacks that round in the fight is based on the rats agility stat. If you have more then one rat, you can choose which rat will fight by choosing the Hobo Fights link on the toolbar and clicking the image of the rat you want fighting.
Battle Grounds for rats
Rats are tied into most hobo fights but not all. The different areas that rats help in hobo fights are:
- One-on-one hobo fights
- Ultimate Fisty Cuffs
- Gang's Junior War Chamber
- City Explore Territory Claims
- Adventure Fights
- A number of special fights during the adventures allow rats to do damage, though some don't.
General Questions
What determines how much damage my rat does in a hobo battle?:
- Generally speaking, the higher your hobo's level, the more damage your rat will do if it gets the hits in hobo fights. Damage is also influenced by the Strength and index of the attacking rat and the Concentration of the defending rat.
- Your rat's Vitality is not a factor on how much damage is done in hobo battles.
Can I change the order of the rats in my cage? :
- No, you cannot.

General FAQ
How do I keep rats I find?:
- In order to own a rat, you must buy a rat cage from the Pet Shop. If you have an open slot in your cage, you will automatically obtain the rat.
What is the best type of rat? :
Is there a limit to the number of rounds a rat fight can go? :
- The limit is 999 moves, after that it simply says "**** and **** made draw."
There is a rat on the "Rat Fights" page with the "[Fight]" link crossed out, what does this mean? :
- You can only attack one rat 3 times per day. You must wait until the next day to attack it again.
My rat has negative lifespan. How did this happen? :
- Your rat will be listed with negative lifespan if you have applied any one of the bonus skill points you received from leveling towards Vegetarianism.
- Your rats lifespan will still be listed as a positive number on the page you see of your rats stats, however, it may show as negative on the "Rat Fights" page once you are into the days that Vegetarianism give you.
What is the purpose of the Cemetery? :
- You can reserve a spot for your rat in the cemetery. This will save some of your rats information for you or others to look up after it dies, including your rats name, your name, its age, level, and index, as well as the time that it died.
- If you pay for a spot then abandon your rat, you will forfeit your cemetery space.
If I have a 1 slot cage and purchase a 2 or 3 slot cage, will my rat be lost?:
- No, your rat will still be there, you'll just receive extra slots.
