One of the biggest perks about owning a rat is that it can directly damage your opponent during hobo fights. Rats can also help you outside of battles to gain extra money, food, booze, or pawnables. |
− | + | Rats must be found and captured before they can be raised to become that formidable sidekick in hobo fights or useful assistant in your everyday hoboing. Rats can be found all over the HoboWorld and be trained to become a powerful attacker or formidable wall just like any hobo can. However, rats are pets and you must have a place for them in your hobo life. | |

+ | Rats can be found all across HoboWorld. However, before you can run around catching rats you must first purchase a Rat Cage to put them all in. Fortunately, the Pet Shop in the City sells rat cages, from one-slot cages that can only hold one rat to three-slot cages that hold up to three! You can only own one type of rat cage at a time; when you purchase a different one, the one you currently have gets thrown out with no refund and replaced by the new cage. So, no, you can't have five three-slot cages or one three-slot cage, one two-slot cage, and one one-slot cage. Therefore, it is highly recommended to buy a two-slot cage if you a non-donator or a three-slot cage if you are a donator. (If you lose your donator status, you still get to keep and use the three-slot cage; it does not disappear or get downgraded to a two-slot cage.) | ||
+ |

||
+ | Once you have purchased your rat cage, you can now go out and start catching rats! As previously mentioned, rats can be found all over the place. If you have a rat cage with an empty slot, you will automatically attempt to catch the rat when you find one. You can release any captured rat you don't want by going to the rat page and selecting Abandon. | ||
− | + | Most of the locations to find rats can be found in the listing of rats below | |
+ | ==Rat Stats== | ||
+ | Rats are just like hobos in that they have stats that determine their worth. Their stats can be trained and upgraded, and they have skills that can give additional benefits. | ||
− | ' | + | ===Basic Rat Stats=== |
+ | Rats have 5 main stats that can be variously increased via leveling, upgrades, and food. These stats are what defines your rat's worth in the activities it performs. There is also the rats' experience stat whose value shows the progress to the rat's next level. | ||
− | + | {| border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="20" | |
+ | ! align="left" width="480" | Life / Age | ||
+ | ! align="left" width="480" | Meals | ||
+ | |- valign="top" | ||
+ | | Life is the current vitality of your rat; it is not the total number of days your rat has left before it dies. Age is the total number of days your rat has lived so far. Every major (AM) reset, your rat's Age increases by one day then its Life decreases by its age. Every minor reset (PM), you're rat's Life decreases by its age. Rats only die if their Life is at or below zero when major reset occurs. You can view a rat's current Lifespan (days til death) by hovering your pointer over its current Life. Additional Life can be gained through upgrade purchases and by feeding them meals. | ||
+ | | Meals determines how much you can feed. Your rat can gain experience and life through consuming food. Meals are gained once every 3 hours. Although rats can consume any food item in the game, they won't gain any secondary benefits that that food item would normally bestow upon hobos. Additional meals can be gained through upgrade purchases. | ||
+ | |- | ||
+ | ! align="left" | Experience | ||
+ | ! align="left" | Speed | ||
+ | |- valign="top" | ||
+ | | Experience is pretty straightforward and works similar to your hobo. Instead of gaining Experience through fights or other actions, rat's gain it by consuming meals. Each time a rat levels, the more Experience is required for the next level. All meals provide Experience, however the amount gained varies between them. The Vegetarianism upgrade will increase the amount of Experience gained per meal while limiting the rat's diet to meatless meals. | ||
+ | | Speed is similar to your hobo's speed stat in that it provides your rat with more chances to attack. The rat with the highest speed will tend to be the aggressor. Speed can be gained through leveling and upgrade purchases. | ||
+ | |- | ||
+ | ! align="left" | Attack | ||
+ | ! align="left" | Defense | ||
+ | |- valign="top" | ||
+ | | Attack is similar to your hobo's power stat in that it provides your rat with offensive power. The damage the rat can deal is reduced by your opponent rat's defense. Attack can be gained through leveling and upgrade purchases. | ||
+ | | Defense is similar to your hobo's Strength stat in that it provides your rat with defense. The higher your rat's defense, the less damage you'll receive from your opponent's rat. Defense can be gained through leveling and upgrades. | ||
+ | |- | ||
+ | ! align="left" | Level / Cheese | ||
+ | ! align="left" | Specials | ||
+ | |- valign="top" | ||
+ | | Level dictates the total amount of upgrades you can give your rat along with increasing the rat's Speed, Attack, and Defense stats. Cheese is gained for each rat level and can be used to purchase rat upgrades. The effectiveness of some rat specials improves with the rat's level. | ||
+ | | Specials are generally unique to each rat type, providing benefits either during or outside of hobo battles. Some Specials increase in effectiveness the higher your rat's level. | ||
+ | |} | ||
+ | ===Gaining Stats=== | ||
+ | In the previous rat system, you had to train your rats' stats. In the current system training has been removed. Each rat simply gains stats from leveling, the amount of gain is based off the rats initial stats when captured. Hobo's further increase individual stats by purchasing upgrades. | ||
− | + | ===Upgrades=== | |
+ | Upgrading your rat will cost you a bit of money and cheese. You can purchase unlimited upgrades for each rat stat. The Vegetarianism, Buddhism, and Materialism upgrades are limited to one purchase per rat. To purchase an upgrade, have the required money on hand(or in your Rat Fund) and the required amount of cheese. Each upgrade of the same type increases in cash cost every purchase and increases in cheese cost every 5th purchase. | ||
− | + | ===Rat Specials=== | |
+ | Since rats were revamped, they all now have special abilities associated with them. These abilities are divided between battle abilities and passive gains. Most special abilities can be transferred to other rats via Necromancy. Abilities that buff or debuff stats will stack & interact with various skills. | ||
− | | + | Another aspect of some specials has to do with rats falling asleep. Rats become sleepy from working outside of battles; examples being gaining life/exp from exploring, stealing while begging, preventing cave-ins, etc. Rats can trigger 20 times each before falling asleep, after 15 triggers their events start saying they're getting sleepy. Sleeping rats won't participate in anything. So if you're exploring, fighting, or participating in either UFC, or JWC (and your chosen rat is asleep) the next highest level rat will participate instead. Rats wake up each reset. |
− | + | Additionally there are a few important things to remember when it comes to some of these abilities gained through necromancy: | |
+ | * Abilities that increase the rat's exp or life will not transfer. | ||
+ | * Fetch ability chances are reduced by half, but are improved by the subrat's level. | ||
+ | * Fetch abilities that improve with rat level use the host rat's level. | ||

+ | ===Necromancy=== | ||
− | + | Necromancy is an unlockable ability that allows you to combine a deceased rat with a host(alive) rat. Merging with your deceased rat gives the host rat increased stats and additional abilities depending on the deceased rats type. Merged rats can not be separated or merged with other rats. | |
− | + | To start the mini quest that unlocks necromancy, you'll need to visit the Pet Cemetery on your Rat Page. There you'll be informed that the Necromancer is trying to find a gift for his girlfriend. Visit Hot Topic to find him and receive the quest to recover the Sexy Mother Theresa Costume. | |
− | + | ||
− | + | ||
− | + | Merging rats requires $250,000 in the Rat Fund, a living rat to be the host, and a deceased rat with the following criteria: | |
− | + | *At least level 10. | |
+ | *Has not already been fused with another rat. | ||
+ | *Died within the last 6 months. | ||
+ | *Rat type must be different from host rat. | ||
+ | Upgrades on the deceased rat do not transfer over to the host rat. The host rat will inherit the deceased rat's special abilities at reduced power. The host rat will get stat boosts based on the deceased rat's base stats and level. The assumed formula for stat gain from merging rats is: | ||
− | | + | Where N = base stat: (((n-5)*.25)+0.75) * (level+1) |
− | + | ==Rats in Hobo Fights== | |
+ | Rats can be very helpful in your quest to conquer other hobos in your fights. Rat attacks happen every 5 rounds in fights. The rat that does attacks that round in the fight is based on the rats speed stat. If you have more then one rat, you can choose which rat will fight by choosing the Hobo Fights link on the toolbar and clicking the image of the rat you want fighting. | ||
+ | ===Battle Grounds for Rats=== | ||
+ | Rats are tied into most hobo fights but not all. The different areas that rats help in hobo fights are: | ||
+ | * One-on-one hobo fights | ||
+ | * Ultimate Fisty Cuffs | ||
+ | * Gangs' Junior War Chambers | ||
+ | * City Explore Territory Claims | ||
+ | * Adventure Fights | ||
+ | ** A number of special fights during the adventures allow rats to do damage, though some don't. | ||
− | | + | ===Rat Damage during Fights=== |
+ | Generally speaking, the higher your hobo's level, the more damage your rat will do if it gets the hits in hobo fights. Damage is also influenced by the Attack stat of the attacking rat and the Dfense of the defending rat. The rat's Speed determines which rat is the one that attacks. | ||
− | + | ==List of Rats== | |
+ | Rats have been around for such a long time that some are obsolete and no longer obtainable. The following is a breakdown of all of the rats that you can and can not get in the game. | ||
+ | ===List of Current Rats=== | ||
+ | There are currently 22 obtainable rats in the game and 1 temporary subrat. | ||
− | + | The following is a list of all them, as well as information pertaining to their base stats (amount of stats it has when you catch it), common location(s) to find that specific rat, and other important information for catching it. It should be noted that all rats can be found in Bernard's Basement and can gain exp/life while exploring the sewers. | |

− | + | ==Feeding Rats== | |
+ | The only way for rats to level up or increase their lifespan is to feed them. Foods give different exp and life gains, these gains can be affected by the Vegetarianism upgrade. Rats can only eat when they have a meal available. If you do not wish to manually feed a rat, you can purchase a Rat Trough to automatically feed them. Your rat gains a meal based on the HoboWars clock; A meal is gained at 00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, 21:00. | ||

− | + | ====Rat Troughs==== | |
− | + | Rat Troughs are purchasable temporary backpack items that automatically feed your rats. When you discard food from your trolley it is thrown into the rat trough for +1 meal. It doesn't matter what food is discarded, they all give the same benefits when rats eat from the trough. If your rat is at maximum meals the trough will automatically feed your rat. If your trough has no food in it then nothing happens. There are two troughs, the original and the golden version. Both versions are outlined below. | |

Rats |
Rats are a hobo's best friend!
Okay maybe not, but they are the only "animal" you can find, capture, own, and raise in HoboWars. One of the biggest perks about owning a rat is that it can directly damage your opponent during hobo fights. Rats can also help you outside of battles to gain extra money, food, booze, or pawnables.
Rats must be found and captured before they can be raised to become that formidable sidekick in hobo fights or useful assistant in your everyday hoboing. Rats can be found all over the HoboWorld and be trained to become a powerful attacker or formidable wall just like any hobo can. However, rats are pets and you must have a place for them in your hobo life.

*Only donators can purchase this rat cage. |
Rats can be found all across HoboWorld. (If you lose your donator status, you still get to keep and use the three-slot cage; it does not disappear or get downgraded to a two-slot cage.)
Once you have purchased your rat cage, you can now go out and start catching rats! As previously mentioned, rats can be found all over the place. If you have a rat cage with an empty slot, you will automatically attempt to catch the rat when you find one. You can release any captured rat you don't want by going to the rat page and selecting Abandon.
Most of the locations to find rats can be found in the listing of rats below
Rat Stats
Rats are just like hobos in that they have stats that determine their worth. Their stats can be trained and upgraded, and they have skills that can give additional benefits.
Basic Rat Stats
Rats have 5 main stats that can be variously increased via leveling, upgrades, and food. These stats are what defines your rat's worth in the activities it performs. There is also the rats' experience stat whose value shows the progress to the rat's next level.
Life / Age | Meals |
---|---|
Life is the current vitality of your rat; it is not the total number of days your rat has left before it dies. | Meals determines how much you can feed. Your rat can gain experience and life through consuming food. Meals are gained once every 3 hours. Although rats can consume any food item in the game, they won't gain any secondary benefits that that food item would normally bestow upon hobos. Additional meals can be gained through upgrade purchases. |
Experience | Speed |
Experience is pretty straightforward and works similar to your hobo. | Speed is similar to your hobo's speed stat in that it provides your rat with more chances to attack. The rat with the highest speed will tend to be the aggressor. Speed can be gained through leveling and upgrade purchases. |
Attack | Defense |
Attack is similar to your hobo's power stat in that it provides your rat with offensive power. The damage the rat can deal is reduced by your opponent rat's defense. Attack can be gained through leveling and upgrade purchases. | Defense is similar to your hobo's Strength stat in that it provides your rat with defense. The higher your rat's defense, the less damage you'll receive from your opponent's rat. Defense can be gained through leveling and upgrades. |
Level / Cheese | Specials |
Level dictates the total amount of upgrades you can give your rat along with increasing the rat's Speed, Attack, and Defense stats. Cheese is gained for each rat level and can be used to purchase rat upgrades. The effectiveness of some rat specials improves with the rat's level. | Specials are generally unique to each rat type, providing benefits either during or outside of hobo battles. Some Specials increase in effectiveness the higher your rat's level. |
Gaining Stats
In the previous rat system, you had to train your rats' stats. In the current system training has been removed. Each rat simply gains stats from leveling, the amount of gain is based off the rats initial stats when captured. Hobo's further increase individual stats by purchasing upgrades.
Upgrades
Upgrading your rat will cost you a bit of money and cheese.
Rat Specials
Since rats were revamped, they all now have special abilities associated with them. These abilities are divided between battle abilities and passive gains. Most special abilities can be transferred to other rats via Necromancy. Abilities that buff or debuff stats will stack & interact with various skills.
Another aspect of some specials has to do with rats falling asleep.
Additionally there are a few important things to remember when it comes to some of these abilities gained through necromancy:
- Abilities that increase the rat's exp or life will not transfer.
- Fetch ability chances are reduced by half, but are improved by the subrat's level.
- Fetch abilities that improve with rat level use the host rat's level.

Necromancy
Necromancy is an unlockable ability that allows you to combine a deceased rat with a host(alive) rat. Merging with your deceased rat gives the host rat increased stats and additional abilities depending on the deceased rats type. Merged rats can not be separated or merged with other rats.
To start the mini quest that unlocks necromancy, you'll need to visit the Pet Cemetery on your Rat Page. There you'll be informed that the Necromancer is trying to find a gift for his girlfriend. Visit Hot Topic to find him and receive the quest to recover the Sexy Mother Theresa Costume.
Merging rats requires $250,000 in the Rat Fund, a living rat to be the host, and a deceased rat with the following criteria:
- At least level 10.
- Has not already been fused with another rat.
- Died within the last 6 months.
- Rat type must be different from host rat.
Upgrades on the deceased rat do not transfer over to the host rat. The host rat will inherit the deceased rat's special abilities at reduced power. The host rat will get stat boosts based on the deceased rat's base stats and level. The assumed formula for stat gain from merging rats is:
Where N = base stat: (((n-5)*.25)+0.75) * (level+1)
Rats in Hobo Fights
Rats can be very helpful in your quest to conquer other hobos in your fights. Rat attacks happen every 5 rounds in fights. The rat that does attacks that round in the fight is based on the rats speed stat. If you have more then one rat, you can choose which rat will fight by choosing the Hobo Fights link on the toolbar and clicking the image of the rat you want fighting.
Battle Grounds for Rats
Rats are tied into most hobo fights but not all. The different areas that rats help in hobo fights are:
- One-on-one hobo fights
- Ultimate Fisty Cuffs
- Gangs' Junior War Chambers
- City Explore Territory Claims
- Adventure Fights
- A number of special fights during the adventures allow rats to do damage, though some don't.
Rat Damage during Fights
Generally speaking, the higher your hobo's level, the more damage your rat will do if it gets the hits in hobo fights. Damage is also influenced by the Attack stat of the attacking rat and the Dfense of the defending rat. The rat's Speed determines which rat is the one that attacks.

Feeding Rats
The only way for rats to level up or increase their lifespan is to feed them.

Rat Troughs
Rat Troughs are purchasable temporary backpack items that automatically feed your rats.
